Gave up on making my starter factory pretty, unlocked fuel and I'm resolving to flying around noting resources while looking for HDD and alien tech

Some of the screenshots you all post both excite and terrify me. I'm slowly plinking away at Phase 2 and I'm having a little bit of a hard time getting stoked to improve my current outputs. Can't imagine what Phase 3 and beyond is going to require.
I'm currently at 75 hours played and I figure I'd show off my factory as it is.
A little background about my journey for those who have been following over the past few weeks:
- I'm trying to do as much as I can by hand. Naturally, as things have gotten more complicated, I'll run stuff through calculators, but I tend to do a lot of the math through spreadsheets I'm building and then I do almost all of the design stuff by hand. I don't like looking up guides on how to build specific factories just because a lot of the fun for me is trying to figure it all out myself and making something that is uniquely mine. (See here.)
- Originally, my plan was to completely rebuild for every Space Elevator phase. After my first build took a good 30+ hours, I decided that this was insane.
- The factory set-up in these photos is nearly frozen in time at the first Space Elevator phase (50 Smart Plating). So it's usually almost entirely parts available in Milestones 0/1/2.
- Once I completed the first phase of the Space Elevator and unlocked Coal and Steel, I considered rebuilding but felt like it wouldn't be worth the effort to do a massive rebuild for a small number of items. I created a small warehouse annex for some base Steel materials.
- Not pictured here is my coal plant and my oil plant. I have those set up for power. A lot of space right now as I don't have a huge amount of consumption. I have 1800 MW capacity, which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but will be fine for me for now.
- After completing the Space Elevator Phase 2, I once again considered a rebuild. As of yesterday, I decided to rush Phase 3 to unlock Milestones 7 & 8. I still have not unlocked a lot of the Tier 5/6 Milestones, but I'm not in any rush on getting everything unlocked. Taking a quick glance at everything in Milestone 9, it felt like a lot of niceties, not many necessities.
- Once I complete Phase 3, my plan is to build a Radar network across the map and start scouring for hard drives for alternate recipes. From there, I'm going to pick a location and start building my megabase.
Purple is Iron Rods. Blue is screws. Light blue is Reinforced Iron Plates and some misc items. Green is Iron Plates. Pink is Quartz products. Yellow is Caterium/Copper/Steel products.
Originally, the building my base is sitting on was a Biofuel powerplant. Since switching to coal/fuel, I've disassembled that, leaving a shell of the building.
The warehouse is 3 floors tall with all base items (AI Limiters, Cable, Concrete, Copper Sheet, Iron Plate, Iron Rod, Modular Frame, Quartz Crystal, Quickwire, Reinforced Iron Plate, Rotor, Screw, Silica, Smart Plating, Wire). Steel Ingots, Steel Pipes, and Steel Beams are part of the outdoor annex.
Items are brought in and sorted into their proper containers.
When containers are full, anything produced of that item is syphoned off and sent to my waste dump.
I haven't fully decided how I want to handle my megabase. I do know that I want to be a bigger warehouse with access to every item (as well as Dimensional Depot upload spots for each item). One possibility is having a ton of satellite facilities throughout the world and then shipping the items to my base via train to be sorted and placed in the appropriate boxes. I'm not opposed to this, but I'm leaning toward keeping the production at the megabase. So with that in mind, perhaps I'll have my powerplants throughout the world and then have a bunch of resource spots pumping out base resources/ingots of all sorts. Then, a train can pick up those and bring them to the megabase where they'll get sorted to the appropriate factories, constructed, and placed in the warehouse loop.
Basically, I've easily got a few hundred hours of game still ahead of me.
To all of the people who, like me, are just recently starting this game and are unsure of how far to progress before laying down permanent structures - I would say that it feels like the game "starts" once finishing Space Elevator Phase 3 because then you have most of the tools at your disposal.
I don't regret all of the hours I put into setting up my initial factory/warehouse because it has allowed me to blitz through Phase 2 & 3 of the space elevator with relatively few bumps.
